IV. Measurement Principles & Usage

A. Ground Resistance Testing (3-Wire Method)

For the most accurate results, the device uses the fall-of-potential method.
  1. Electrode Placement: Drive the auxiliary potential spike (P) and current spike (C) into the earth in a straight line, spaced 5 to 10 meters apart from the grounding electrode under test (E).
  2. Connection: Connect the corresponding colored test leads from the instrument ports (E, P, C) to the respective spikes and the grounding point.
  3. Principle: The instrument injects a current through the outer electrodes and measures the voltage drop across the inner electrodes to calculate resistance based on Ohm's Law ( R=V/I ).

B. Earth Voltage Measurement

  1. Setup: Connect the test leads to the ground object and a reference point.
  2. Operation: Switch the dial to the EARTH VOLTAGE setting.
  3. Safety Check: If the measured voltage exceeds 10V, it is recommended to disconnect the equipment being tested to reduce interference before measuring resistance, as high ground voltage can affect accuracy.
